Child and Youth Counselor
About the Outreach Child and Youth Counselor:
providing non-therapeutic counselling for children

This program is dedicated to providing children and teens counselling in the areas of: self-esteem, empathy, anger management, conflict resolution, bullying awareness, family conflict, friendship, separation and divorce, grief counselling, dating violence, creating healthy relationships and/or other areas of concern indicated by their parent/guardian.
This service is offered free of charge and has no lengthy waiting period. Service may be provided either at the Nipissing Transition House or at the child’s school (we will assist in making these arrangements). We offer initial 3-6 sessions and base any need for additional sessions on your concerns as well as your child’s needs. Each session is 30 minutes in length. The initial session is a “getting to know you” session where your child has the opportunity to express a few of his/her concerns or interests. Each additional session includes brief interactive discussions as well as a related activity.
Your child will learn the skills and strategies to effectively address issues of violence in their daily lives, promote healthy relationships with friends, family and in dating situations, encourage good decision-making while resolving conflict and appropriate expression of emotion. Individuals may also gain an increased awareness of the effects of violence against women and children, including family violence.
If you are residing at Nipissing Transition House with your children, please ask a front-line worker to inform the Outreach Child and Youth Counsellor that you are interested in this program. If you are a legal guardian and you and your children are not residing at Nipissing Transition House and you would like your child/ren to receive this program, please contact the Outreach Child and Youth Counsellor at (705)497-0758 or Nipissing Transition House at (705)476-2429. The Outreach Child and Youth Counsellor will then contact you to discuss the program, your concerns and arrange for a prompt program start date.
